From May 6-9, the 12th Rosaceae Genomic Conference (RGC12) took place in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, a picturesque coastal town nestled approximately 100 km north of Barcelona, Spain.
Several BreedingValue consortium partners used the RGC12 event to disseminate their results achieved during last 4,5 years of the BreedingValue project.
The French Breeding Value partners, INVENIO and INRAe presented results related to the genetic analysis conducted in strawberry through a poster presentation on fruit quality ("Genome-Wide Association Study for fruit quality on a European-centered strawberry diversity panel"). This poster, presented by Aurélie Petit (INVENIO), relates to recently published work of INVENIO and INRAe identifying key genetic markers and candidate genes for breeding better strawberries. See related news article on BreedingValue website here.
Additionally, an oral presentation on powdery mildew resistance in strawberry ("Exploiting the genetic diversity of cultivated strawberry for powdery mildew resistance: from GWAS to genomic prediction and crosses simulations“) was given Pol Rey-Serra (INRAe).
The Spanish BreedingValue partner institution IFAPA was represented at the RGC12 with four poster presentations covering the following topics:
• "Gene variants controlling natural variation of sugar content in strawberry fruit", presented by Francisco Javier Roldán-Guerra (IFAPA).
• "Deciphering the role of FaARF6 in the regulation of strawberry fruit growth and ripening", presented by Raquel Muñoz de Frutos (IFAPA).
• “Identification of quantitative trait loci and candidate genes affecting drought tolerance in strawberry”, presented by Mario Ruiz-Velázquez (IFAPA).
• "Role of the CCD4(4B) Locus in Carotenoid Metabolism, ABA Biosynthesis, and Strawberry Domestication". This poster, presented by Cristina Castillejo (IFAPA), relates to the latest findings on the natural variation in fruit carotenoid content in strawberry recently published in the 'Plant Biotechnology Journal'.
