Over four and a half years, BreedingValue has mapped the genetic biodiversity of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, applied new advanced genotyping technology and phenotyping tools, developed innovative data tools, and established a framework aligning breeding with consumer needs. Our work package representatives share insights on progress, challenges, and the future impact on berry genetic diversity and breeding. Discover how our collaboration is shaping genetic resource management!

Prof. Bruno Mezzetti (BreedingValue Coordinator)
Università Politecnica Delle Marche

In this video, Bruno recounts the origins of the project and discusses the importance of genetic diversity in Europe as well as its impact on the future of berry breeding.

PD Dr Klaus Olbricht
Hansabred GmbH & Co. KG

As Work Package 1 leader, Klaus presents the advancements made in diversity mapping for strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, and stresses the benefit of Europe´s comprehensive data collection opportunities.

Dr Jahn Davik NIBIO
Norsk Institutt for Biookonomi

In Work Package 2, the focus was on the application of new genotyping technologies to enhance breeding efforts. Open Calls provided access to valuable data from various breeding programs, fostering innovation and collaboration.

Dr. Sonia Osorio
Universidad De Malaga

Sonia guides us through the key responsibilities of Work Package 3, where innovative phenotypic tools and newly developed protocols were used to characterize the diversity of plant traits.

Dr Saila Karhu
Luke - Natural Resources Institute Finland

Work Package 4 focused on consumer studies, creating valuable resources to identify preferred traits and developing a detailed vocabulary to describe fruit properties.

Prof. Björn Usadel
Forschungszentrum Juelich GmbH

In this video, Björn explains how the Germinate platform meets data management needs, providing a comprehensive view of berry materials with actionable data.
