Türkiye has the potential to produce the 'superfood' blueberry in 7 regions
The BreedingValue partner Prof. Ebru Kafkas of the Çukurova University (UCUK) was featured with an video interview in Turkish media. In the video entitled "Türkiye has the potential to produce the 'superfood' blueberry in 7 regions.
Çukurova University (ÇÜ) Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture Lecturer and researcher Prof. Ebru Yaşa Kafkas said, "We have a production potential of 100 thousand tons for blueberries in our country." In recent years, interest in the production and consumption of blueberries, which has been shown to be protective against cancer in scientific studies, has increased in Turkey as well as in the world. It has been proven by epidemiological studies that this fruit, which we define as a health elixir, prevents heart and cancer diseases, delays Alzheimer's, prevents memory loss, and has calming properties. However, the important point here is that the findings of the positive effects of blueberries have been detected in people who regularly consume this fruit, one glass every day, for at least 6 months or 1 year.
Additionally, impressions from the laboratory and the green house facilities at UCUK are shown where BreedingValue blueberry trails are being performed.
