Strawberry enthusiasts from around the world are currently meeting in Yancheng, China and BreedingValue is part of it!

The 10th International Strawberry Symposium is running from March 16-21, 2025 in Yancheng city of China and gathers researchers, academics, technicians, students, sales representatives and other professionals from the strawberry sector.

Partners from the BreedingValue project didn’t miss this exciting opportunity to present and disseminate results from the BreedingValue research conducted during the last four years and to engage in lively interaction with the symposium attendees:

  • Bruno Mezzetti (Marche Polytechnic University), coordinator of the BreedingValue project acted as the Vice-Chairman of the symposium’s academic committee and in his speech presented results from the metabolite diversity study conducted within BreedingValue as well as opportunities for new breeding strategies.
  • Klaus Olbricht (Hansabred) presented first results of consumer studies conducted as part of the BreedingValue project in a oral speach entiteled "Wild species introgression alters aroma profiles: Do consumers accept new strawberry aroma types?".
  • Duygu Ayvaz Sönmez (Yaltir), Ebru Kafkas, Salih Kafkas (both Çukurova University) provided an oral presentation on “Classical and Modern Strawberry breeding strategies carried out in Türkiye”.
  • Sonia Osorio (University of Malaga) provided insight into results achieved in BreedingValue in her talk "Breakdown strawberry fruit quality-Influence of environmental and genetic factors"
  • Luca Mazzoni (Marche Polytechnic University) discussed in his presentation the main nutritional quality advantages of including wild genetic resources in the UNIVPM breeding programme.
  • Silvia Sabbadini (Marche Polytechnic University) provided a talk on main biotechnological approaches for the genetic improvement of Fragaria x ananassa.

The 10th International Strawberry Symposium (X ISS) can be considered the grandest international symposium in the strawberry circle. The Symposium is organised under the theme "Quality, Germplasm, Brand and Innovation“ and offers invited lectures, oral presentations in different sessions and technical visits, exhibitions on strawberry production and research, including an exhibition of strawberry production equipment and technology from major domestic and international strawberry producers.
