CIV, Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti, is a company founded by three leading Italian nurseries, Vivai Mazzoni, Salvi Vivai, Tagliani Vivai, specialized in fruit trees and strawberry plants propagation.

CIV was born in Ferrara (Italy) in 1983, with the aim to reach a high level of variety innovation and production of certified propagation material. CIV nowadays is located in San Giuseppe di Comacchio (FE-Italy), a strategic position, in the middle of a big nursery area, but with a good isolation from the fruit production field.

The main activities of CIV can be summarized as follow:

• Strawberry breeding: CIV strawberry varieties have been having strong impact on the market, particularly in Europe. Tests are carried out in the major growing areas around the world and licensed commercial propagation and production of some varieties is starting in the EU, USA, Canada, Egypt, South Africa, Chile, Poland.
• Pome fruit and rootsotck breeding: providing new improved varieties of apple and rootstock with enhanced resistance to the most common diseases. Currently CIV has a portfolio of 7 apple varieties resistant to Venturia Inequalis. CIV manage the variety development and has two club varieties (MODÌ®, RUBENS®), and other two varieties with a commercial exclusivity.
• Production of certified and healthy bud-wood, rootstocks and strawberry mother plants in the frame of the National Certification Scheme.
